About Our Project
The goal of our project is to inform individuals within Western society about the misconceptions about Muslim women. At the same time we hope to display a complete picture of Muslim Women. Since, there is much diversity within the Muslim community, there is difficulty ascribing one phenotype representation. Western society has chosen a phenotype that is not a true representation of the uniqueness among Muslim women.
Religion is a key component within these women's lives; however, it is not their sole identity. This project desires to humanize and bring to light their experience within a religion that seems "oppressive" from a Western perspective. In addition, we desire to give a true representation of Muslim women.

WHy Focus on Muslim Women?
The perpetual image of Muslim women is that they are submissive, silent, and oppressed. Media has painted a bias picture of Muslim women. As a result of media sensationalism, these images of Muslim women as being oppressive, submissive, and weaker becomes the phenotype for all Muslim women. Women are silenced even within our own society. The stories and contribution into the framework of American is not realized. The perpetual silencing of women can be seen across the globe.
